This site is still being assembled, but so far I do have an aircheck (this one is 'scoped) from KBBK from the early 70's featuring Bill Bailey and two featuring me (not 'scoped).    There may some others in my library and I will post them as soon as possible if there are.

This next one needs a bit of a comment first.  It was retrieved from a tape made at 1-7/8 ips, recorded off-air from a tuner.  It was about 1975 or so, and at that time KBBK was broadcasting in SQ quad.  We synthesized the two rear channels most of the time, although there were one or two shows a week that were actually recorded quaraphonic.  Anyway, this one is an automated segment.  About 10 1/2 minutes into it, the tape was munched, so there is a pretty obvious glitch at that point.  So, here it is:

KBBK-Auto

Another automated segment, from probably about the same time frame:

KBBK-Auto-02           **

This next cut is from a spot tape that inserted the spots into American Top 40.  The spot breaks for the entire show are all here, so there is a lot of repetition of commercials.  Air date for this one was February 25, 1975:

Some KBBK history:

Anyone familiar with KBBK knows that is no longer exists in Boise.  The call letters were changed, and if you search you will probably find a station in Nebraska now has that call sign.  The 92.3 frequency has been sold several times, and is now part of one of the large corporate owned radio clusters in Boise.

But, back in 1973, when I moved to Boise, KBBK was alive (more or less) on Fairview Avenue on the west edge of Boise.  The antenna was on its sister AM station's (KBRJ AM 950) tower, barely 200 feet off the ground with a whopping 29,000 watts.  Any of you that may have lived in Boise at the time would remember it as the station with the studio on the top of the building and that it looked very much like an airport tower, only not as high.

I was hired as KBBK's engineer primarily to complete a move to a higher antenna site, along with a power increase.  And so, it January of 1974, KBBK began broadcasting from Deer Point, the site where now nearly all of the Boise FM's and TV stations are located.  At the time KBBK moved, it was the 3rd FM on the hill, and there were only about 3 TV stations on the air from there as well.

I have some more audio goodies from the KBBK days that I will post when I can, along with stories and memories as I recall them.
